Hypnotherapy, explained and summarised most simply involves communicating with the subconcious mind in order to change behaviour, normally performed in a relaxed state of mind, similar to day-dreaming.

The human mind's thinking can be broadly split into 2 main categories - conscious and subconscious.
Conscious thoughts we generally actively think about, whereas the subconscious controls our actual behaviours, actions that occur without us even thinking about them.
For example there may be something which happens to you consciously, for example, hearing a particular piece of music or even smelling the smell of certain food cooking. or something, which instantly invokes a memory or has some association with something else? This is your subsconscious at work. The subconscious mind also serves as your memory.
And so with hypnosis it is possible to alter these subconscious behaviours without you even having to learn anything new consciously.
